How We Make Our Artificial Christmas Trees
From Raw Materials to Finished Products
At Northern Forest, artificial Christmas tree production involves a series of manufacturing, assembly, inspection, and packaging processes.
Our production workflow incorporates quality control at multiple stages, from incoming material inspection to final product inspection, helping us monitor product quality throughout manufacturing.
Our Manufacturing Process
Step 01 — Raw Material Inspection
Quality Control Begins with Incoming Materials
Before production begins, incoming raw materials undergo Incoming Quality Control (IQC).
Materials that do not meet inspection requirements are rejected and returned to the supplier.
Incoming light strings also undergo high-voltage testing as part of the material inspection process.
Step 02 — Basic Material Processing
Preparing Materials for Tree Production
After incoming inspection, approved materials proceed to basic processing.
This stage prepares the materials for subsequent foliage and branch manufacturing operations.
In-Process Quality Control (IPQC) is incorporated into the production workflow to monitor quality during manufacturing.
Step 03 — Foliage and Branch Production
Creating the Structure of Each Tree
Foliage and branches are prepared through several production operations:
- Foliage Twisting: Processing foliage strips into branch components.
- Foliage Cutting: Cutting prepared foliage materials.
- Branch Wrapping: Securing foliage materials to form branches.
- Branch Twisting: Preparing branch structures for assembly.
- Tree Binding: Preparing tree components for the next stage of production.
These processes produce the branch and tree components required for assembly.
Step 04 — Tree Assembly
Bringing the Components Together
Prepared branches and tree components move to the assembly stage.
The individual components are assembled to form the artificial Christmas tree structure before proceeding to lighting and decorative processes.
Step 05 — Lighting Installation
Integrating Lighting into the Tree
For pre-lit Christmas trees, light strings are installed during the manufacturing process.
Lighting installation takes place after tree assembly and before final quality inspection.
A full lighting inspection is also conducted before packaging.
Step 06 — Decorative Processing
Adding Decorative Details
Following lighting installation, products requiring decorative processing proceed to the decoration stage.
Decorative elements are added according to the product's manufacturing requirements before final inspection.
Step 07 — Final Quality Inspection
Checking Products Before Packaging
Completed products undergo Final Quality Control (FQC) before packaging.
Products identified as nonconforming are directed to the nonconformity management process for correction or appropriate handling.
This inspection stage forms part of our manufacturing quality control workflow.
Step 08 — Packaging
Preparing Finished Trees for Shipment
After final inspection, approved products proceed to packaging.
For pre-lit products, a full lighting inspection is performed before packaging.
Finished trees are then packed in preparation for storage and subsequent shipment.
Step 09 — Warehousing
From Finished Products to Storage
Once packaged, finished products are transferred to the warehouse.
This completes the manufacturing workflow before the next stage of order fulfillment and shipment arrangements.
Quality Control Throughout Production
Quality control is integrated into multiple stages of our manufacturing process:
- IQC — Incoming Quality Control: Inspection of incoming materials before production.
- IPQC — In-Process Quality Control: Quality monitoring during manufacturing.
- FQC — Final Quality Control: Inspection of finished products before packaging.
- Nonconformity Management: Identification and handling of products that do not meet requirements.
Our workflow also includes corrective and preventive processes for managing identified quality issues.
